Get Involved
There are plenty of ways to get involved with Democratic politics in Jenkintown. The first, and easiest, is, of course, to vote. Beyond that, there’s a range of activities you can do that will help you become involved in the community, get to know your neighbors, and advance the values and issues you care about:
Knock on doors — Each year there are petitions to be signed, voter registration packets to circulate, and candidate information to share with your neighbors. Sign up for as much or as little canvassing as you can fit in your schedule.
Work polling places — Greet your neighbors at your local polling place and help provide information about the Democratic slate. Sign up for a time-block that fits your schedule.
Attend meetings — Get to know the issues and the individuals involved with borough government by sitting in on a Public Works meeting, for example, or a School Board or Borough Council meeting. A lot goes on that you won’t read in the paper, and it all affects you very directly. The opinions of those who show up at meetings carry a lot of weight!
Meet fellow Democrats at fundraisers — Every few months there’s a get-together, usually hosted by one of your neighbors, where like-minded Jenkintonians throw $20 or $50 in a basket and get to know one another. Often a special guest, such as a local elected official, will attend to answer questions and meet constituents.
Chip in with clerical help — If you can make copies, type into a computer, or check off names on lists, your help is needed with the paperwork involved in attracting and electing candidates. Again, as little or as much time as you can spare makes a big difference.
Run for office — the Jenkintown Democratic Committee is always looking for individuals interested in participating directly in borough or school district government. Why not throw your hat in the ring?
Donate! – Fielding and electing Democratic candidates is expensive: Printing costs, mailings — even fundraisers — all are paid for by Democrats like you. Whatever you can afford is appreciated, and giving is as easy as clicking the link at the top of the left side of this page.
